Once upon a time there were animals

2009

Wood, nails, paper, wire, stereo, lamp

Installation consisting of sculptures of the carcasses of decaying animals, built from wood and paper. The construction is fragile, the materials simple - nails stick out of the wood, structures are held together by steel wire, a paw is created by tightly wounding string around paper.

In the corner stands a moving lamp, creating shadows that creep over the walls in a repetitive pattern. A voice whispers the same story over and over again, as if it is stuck in a loop. ‘Once upon a time there were animals,’ it says.
